Gemlik Gübre, the first plant realized by Tecnimont in Turkey, embodies an EPC contract for a value of approximately €200 million for the implementation of a new Urea and UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate solution) plant in Gemlik, 125 km south of Istanbul, Turkey.

The plant is based on NEXTCHEM’s NX STAMI Urea™ technology, delivered by Stamicarbon (NEXTCHEM’s subsidiary and nitrogen fertilizer technology licensor) and is the third of its kind in the world.  It has the capacity of 1,640 MTPD of Granular Urea and 500 MTPD of UAN. Steam consumption is up to 40% less here than for other urea projects. Cooling water consumption by about 16% less compared to traditional CO 2 stripping processes.

The Scope of Work concerns the execution of engineering, supply of all equipment and materials, construction, and erection works.

With this project, Tecnimont is focused on contributing to community relations by working with local stakeholders: the amount of interfaces with new local vendors has been innovative. Through their involvement in Tecnimont 3D modeling study, vendors understood the project requirements, delivery priorities and sequential fabrication and other workflows. Tecnimont used local engineering company as a go-between for its Engineering department and local authority & client consultant for adopting standards, local rules, regulation, seismic code and more. It was successfully adopted the methodology of the digital Advance Work Package (AWP) to better visualize and efficiently execute construction activities.
